I first flew a frenzy in a buggy about 2 years ago, it was a 5m, and I was impressed with the handling and smooth power delivery, I found it very comfortable, and using a bar was not a problem, but never at the time thought I'd be flying a 9.5 within a year!! And let alone buggy jumping with it!! Great sport hey, so much variety. |
Packaging, Style + Construction:

The Frenzy comes with a very durable waterproof rucksack, made for the mountains. Smart graphics, loads of stickers, keyring, repair cloth plus an instruction manual. After reading and taking note of all the warnings in the instruction manual!! Setting up the kite is easy, as the bar comes all set up, so all you have to do is attach the lines, unwrap them and check for twists, then your ready to fly.
Construction is up to Ozone's usual high standard, but the 05 is made out of a different cloth to the 04. The safety system has been radically improved, the power lines now run through the centre of the bar and there is an extra pulley in the bridle. |

Very very fast... |

Strapped into the buggy and hooking the chicken loop into the harness, the heart starts to pump abit faster than normal. In 18mph and smooth onshore, one gentle pull on the power lines and the sand is spraying up from the back wheels as I head down the beach sideways. With a smooth rush of power until I settle the kite, which is very easy to do, The kite appears super stable (just waiting to throw it to see) and checking out the sand, I pull in the bar, and just speed up, a little sweep of the kite with one hand on the bar, and I pop smoothly up on 2 wheels. I start to throw the kite about, and feeling very comfortable with it chuck it into a downturn, fully powered up, just start sliding, and keep sliding, with considerably smooth power delivery, but no luffing, I kick the front wheel an pop up onto 2 wheels .All feels very smooth, and stable, an with abit of bar and steering, managing to two wheel all away down the beach, popping a jump off two wheels. Depower kites seem to be all about when to power up. In 18 mph the 10m is fully powered up, and learning to use the bar is essential. When to pump hard or when to just slowly pull the bar in without really powering up the kite. In say 25, with some depower on, the 10 will launch you out of turns if you move it too quick, if you pull the bar in, the kite turns slower, without the massive power boost. Same when you throw it behind you for jumps, when you find that 'sweet spot' to hit the boost, it feels good, the 05 redirects well, and is quick which is helping my transitions. There is a mass of power there when you want it. It likes 10mph winds upwards to really get going, and to use all the benefits of a depowerable kites. So far I've flown the 10m in up to 30mph, and found it 'a little scary', I was maxed out, (but had the space to ride it out) and didn't want to do anything too impulsive. This is where the 7m comes into play, with the smaller frenzies, It's a quick kite, you can still get the pop, when u ask for it!! But still be able to chuck them around to generate the power needed if the wind drops, or lulls, in gusty conditions, they ride the gusts out ok, but give me steady onshores anyday!! |

The safety system works really sweetly, and is well located and visible, fully powered up, I pulled the orange toggle, and the kite instantly stalled and fell to the ground, also found that I could use the re ride system while strapped in, without getting dragged up the beach. |
